ATTENTION: New Information for the 2010/2011 School Year.

The seventh grade will join the rest of the school to do Science Night this year. This event will include grades Pre-K through 7. The 2011 Science Night will take place on Thursday, April 7th. While seventh grade students are required to do a research project to address the 7th grade curriculum and encouraged to participate in Science Night for extra credit, it is not mandatory.

Most of the information from last year applies in terms of creating a project. The only significant difference is in the later date, which does not allow us to participate in the Connecticut Science Fair. On Wednesday, February 16thm I will hold a meeting with parents after school and explain all of this. We will begin our projects in class in February and continue working on them until the end of March.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Science research can be thought of as a journey with many exciting and unforeseen discoveries ahead. When you begin, you will not always know exactly where you will end up. And as you travel along the way, you will find many forks in the road where you must choose your next path very carefully. But as your adventure unfolds, you will learn about many unusual and unimaginable things.

Each year, we embark on a research journey in the seventh grade as part of our study of science literacy. I believe that it is important for my students to know how to find accurate information and how to distinguish between good and bad sources. Therefore, we will begin a major research unit in February that will culminate with Science NIght that will be held in early spring, 2011. While this fair will take place in early April 7th, the projects must soon be started if we are to be ready.

Journeys can also be complicated, difficult, and stressful. Since having a good guide helps make any journey go smoothly, I have created this portal for you to explore. It will guide you through the many fascinating science topics at hand for students to explore and investigate. Please take a moment to enter this Science Project Portal and explore it with your child.

I am your guide too. As always, please feel free to contact me via email or phone with any questions or concerns.

Enjoy,
