    Watch Blood Cells Line Up One at a Time to Pass Through a Capillary
    The blood vessel with blood running diagonally from top to bottom is a vein acting as a postcapillary venule. It is draining blood away from the capillary bed. The blood vessel running from bottom to top is acting as a terminal arteriole, supplying blood to a capillary bed. Watch the single blood cells run down the capillary connecting the two.

    This video shows a classic capillary bed. The terminal arteriole is located at the bottom left corner and the postcapillary venule is located at the top right corner. Capillaries cross between the two, allowing the blood to cross over.
